HOW-TO: FREEZE FRUIT FOR THICKER DRINKS

Frozen fruit creates a thick texture and a cold drink. Plus, freezing your own fruit gives you the chance to use great-tasting seasonal fruit in smoothies year-round. The best candidates are bananas, berries, and stone fruit, such as cherries, peaches, and plums.

Wash the fruit and pat it dry, and then peel and remove pits if necessary. Cut large fruit into evenly pieces.

Arrange the fruit on a baking sheet in a single layer, and freeze until the fruit is hard.

Transfer the frozen fruit to a zip-top plastic freezer bag. Store the fruit in small batches, squeezing out as much air as you can before sealing the bag for maximum freshness.
